Definition & names of parts
The lever gauge is a measuring instrument that uses a lever-gear or lever-screw transmission mechanism to convert the swing of the measuring rod into the angular displacement of the pointer or digital display. It is mainly used for the measurement of shape and position errors and dimensions.
Classification by purpose
Mitutoyo's lever watches are divided into several types, such as horizontal type, vertical type, inclined type, parallel type, universal type, and pocket type, according to the direction of dial installation and usage.
Horizontal
The horizontal lever gauge is a standard model, and the user's line of sight and the level of the dial can be read, and a rich product lineup is available.
vertical
The dial of the vertical lever gauge is arranged in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the probe. The user can read from the vertical direction and is suitable for positioning the center of the hole.
Inclined type
The dial of the tilting lever gauge is tilted upward (can be tilted by 20°), and it can be read on the user's side, which is very convenient for reading on the side of a large workpiece or when measuring on a high workbench.
Parallel type
For parallel lever gauges, relative to the dial, the action direction of the stylus is close to the horizontal cylindrical end face from the horizontal direction, and the reading can be read from the front of the dial.
Universal
The stylus of the universal lever gauge can move freely in any direction, and the stylus angle and measuring direction can be adjusted 360˚ without moving the lever gauge, which is very flexible to use.
Universal Leverage Table
In addition, there is a pocket-sized lever gauge with a slim design, which can be fixed directly on the body, and the slim "body" is suitable for measuring in deep holes.

Stylus material and length
When selecting a model, the material and length of the stylus are also factors to be considered.
For example, the material of the Mitutoyo lever watch needle is divided into carbide and ruby.
Carbide styli are weakly magnetic and are less susceptible to magnetic environments. The tip of the ruby stylus is a spherical ruby, which has higher wear resistance than the carbide stylus, and is made of insulating material, so it can be safely used in electric discharge processing equipment.
